There Is More To Zermatt Than The Matterhorn

Valais canton is in southern Switzerland and that is where you’ll find a top vacation destination – Zermatt. The Matterhorn peak is approximately 1600m above, with its iconic shadow beaconing those below to come climb, hike, or ski. 

While many do just that, just as many stay in town, and enjoy the many boutiques and restaurants, all within walking distance of the hotels. Other partakes in curling or skating in the public outdoor rinks. Then, at the end of any given day, whether they were part of the Zermatt ski scene, hung out around the skating rinks, or those choose to stay and dine, shop, and visit, they all enjoy a lively après-ski scene.

Zermatt Ski

Zermatt is a terrific place for sightseeing.  It’s right at the foot of the fabulous Matterhorn.  Several high-altitude glaciers are in the surrounding area.  The nearby Alpine meadows and forests are lush and inviting.  And then you have the inspiring views from the top of the Gornergrat – the rocky ridge that’s Switzerland’s top tourist destination.  It’s only a couple of miles or so (about 3 km) from the village.  The train station where you can catch the scenic Gornergrat cog railway is only a few yards away from several Zermatt hotels.
